First Aid
Practical first aid for aviation, where help can be a long way away — so you can act calmly and effectively when someone needs you.
One dayStart and finish in a single day
Every 3 yearsCertification renewed every three years
Open to allGuthrie students and visiting crews are welcome
What’s covered
- Primary survey and the recovery position
- CPR and use of an AED
- Choking, severe bleeding and shock
- Burns, fractures and head injuries
- In-flight medical emergencies — fainting, seizures, cardiac and diabetic events
- Hypoxia, hyperventilation and other aeromedical considerations
- What’s in the aircraft first-aid kit, and how to use it
How often you need it
First-aid certification is renewed every three years. A single day every three years keeps the one skill you most hope never to need ready to use.
Why it’s worth doing
- You can keep someone alive until help arrives — often a long way from a hospital
- Required for many licences and commercial operations
- A skill that matters as much on the ground as it does in the air
Courses run on scheduled dates through the year — see the calendar or ask us for the next intake.
